Abel Tasman and Kaikoura
We stop at a waterfall, fly fish at a lake, and camp on the beach after loading up a good supply of beer, wine, and liqueur.
The next day, we take a scenic water taxi along the coast for a great 12-mile jaunt back. We stop to swim in a beautiful bay and hike through luscious forest. That night, we drive towards Kaikoura, but have trouble finding a campsite. We end up sleeping at a rest stop on the side of a road. Despite the thunderous sound of passing trucks, we sleep well. I sleep outside and wake up to a beautiful sunrise, awakening Dave to share the view. When a school bus driver honks and waves later that morning, I figure its time to get up and leave.
We stop in Kaikoura, a nice town north of Christchurch featuring lots of seabirds and marine wildlife. We spot a penguin, fur seals, shags, and gulls along the tidal zone. We finish off the trip with a fun night out in the small town of Lincoln. Then, its back to school. Yippee.
